~ We enjoy chatting with like minded road trippers, in person and on the internet. We don’t use Discord, Facebook or any of the commonly used platforms. They are not private and collect a dangerous amount of personal data. Under the excuse of game integrations, presence notifications etc, all that data is being logged via telemetry. Most people know that Facebook and similar platforms spy on users.
IRC is a text-based chat system for instant messaging. IRC is designed for group communication in discussion forums, called channels but also allows one-on-one communication via private messages as well as chat and data transfer, including file sharing. IRC was created in 1988 and it’s still the most secure and private chat and messaging system. We use IRC because we don’t want to be spied on and our personal data and messages logged and sold by social media companies.

An app for IRC is called a client. There are several free IRC clients (apps) that work well. HexChat for Windows works well and is free. There are other clients for Windows, Android and iOS.
Web based IRC clients like KiwiIRC.com offer no privacy. We advise against using web based IRC.
~ There is a private IRC channel for Ohio road trippers and a group of friendly, like minded people that meet on the channel regularly. If you need help getting started on IRC or have questions, send us a message via the contact form.
~ All maps, books and locations info files are stored on an online file server. A password is needed to access the files. Contact Dana or send me a message if you need access. If you want to contribute files, send me a message.
